Yaya Toure claims hat-trick of African awards
Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure has been named the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Footballer of the Year.
It is a third straight title for Toure, who also won December's BBC African Footballer of the Year award.
He was up against fellow Ivorian Didier Drogba, of Galatasaray, and Nigeria and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.
Toure, 30, emulates Abedi Pele and Samuel Eto'o with a hat-trick of wins.

2011 Yaya Toure
2010 Samuel Eto'o
2009 Didier Drogba
2008 Emmanuel Adebayor
2007 Frederic Kanoute
2006 Didier Drogba
Ghanaian Abedi Pele won three in a row between 1991-93 while Cameroonian Eto'o took the award from 2003-05.
Toure may not have won a major trophy for club and country last year but his class has shone through at both domestic level and for the Elephants of Ivory Coast.
He was honoured at a ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria, on Thursday.
Toure's form also led to him being the only African to be included on the 23-man shortlist for Fifa's World Player of the Year.
His closest rival for the Caf award was Mikel, 26, who helped Nigeria win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa and also featured in Chelsea's Europa League win.
Former Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu was the last Nigerian star to win the prestigious award in 1999.
Ex-Chelsea favourite Drogba, 35, was runner-up in 2012 but won the Caf award in 2006 and 2009.

Photo: General Overseer’s Wife Resurrects After Doctors Confirmed Her Dead
The wife of the General Overseer and Founder of Victory Life Bible Church (VLBC), Abeokuta, Ogun State, Rev. (Mrs) Folake Achudume, who doctors have confirmed dead has resurrected before she could be buried. The woman while narrating her story and testifying to the goodness of God in the presence of their congregation, said she was already confirmed dead by doctors and narrated how her spirit left her body and what she saw in another realm. Her husband also said, when doctors told him, his wife was dead as a result of the operation because she bled to death, said she didn’t die but went on a visit in faith. Below is part of what she said while giving her testimony.
“What I experienced was like being a drama piece. I saw myself coming out of my body, and going into a white cloud. I didn’t know where I was going, but I was asked to look down, only to see my husband, children been consoled, as my burial was been planned. I saw people crying.” “Later, I stretched my hand and I was taken to a glorious place, where I saw people in white garment welcoming me, telling me to come in. I joined them, but a big hand stretched out, with a voice saying the place is not for me,”
“I later found myself in another place, more glorious and beautiful, I was not allowed in again, but I was taken to a third place, where I was not allowed again. Then a voice came telling me to look down, and told me I should return to where I was coming from, but I was struggling to join the group. Then I heard a thunderous voice and it was at that point my eyes opened.”
“I stand to tell you that God has power over death. The consultants had confirmed that I bled to death after the operation. If you understand what I went through you will realize that life is vanity. By that experience everything in life to me has lost value. It was not a joke, I appreciate God, because God made me to understand the mystery of life,” she told the congregation.

Ex-Ekiti State Acting Governor And Speaker, Chief Friday Aderemi, Dead At 74
Former
Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Chief Friday Aderemi,
passed away today at the age of 74 years. Chief Aderemi, an indigene of
Ayetoro-Ekiti, died at the state University Teaching Hospital,
Ado-Ekiti, on Tuesday after a brief illness.
The late Mr. Aderemi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Kayode Fayemi and played prominent roles during struggles to reclaim the Governor's mandate from Dr. Segun Oni.
In 2003, he was elected to represent Ido/Osi Constituency 2 at the Ekiti State House of Assembly.
In 2004, he became the Speaker of the state House of Assembly after the impeachment of his predecessor, Hon. Sola Ajigbolamu.
The deceased ruled the state for one day as acting governor after Ayodele Fayose was removed from office in October 2006.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, the incumbent Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi expressed his regret over the death of Chief Aderemi.
The Governor said the history of Ekiti, as a political entity, would not be complete without a generous mention of Aderemi's contributions as a teacher, legislator, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Acting Governor, and lately as chairman of the state's Education Trust Fund.

"Chief
Aderemi saw politics as an opportunity to serve the people, and he did
that to the best of his ability serving as a worthy representative of
his constituency in the old Ondo State and Ekiti State," the statement
read.
"He was a decent politician and
diligent parliamentarian. No wonder he was elected Speaker in the Second
Assembly in Ekiti State. And he brought maturity to bear in presiding
over the affairs of the Assembly.
"Providence
thrust the governance of the state on his shoulders when he emerged as
Acting Governor on October 16, 2006 and acted in the interest of the
people for the two days he spent in office.
"Despite
his attainment of enviable political heights in life, he lived among
his people in Ayetoro-Ekiti and was ever ready to contribute to the
development of his community in particular and the state in general.
"May
the gentle soul of this great Ekiti son and legend continue to find
rest in the bosom of the Lord as we all mourn his demise.
"On
behalf of the government and people of Ekiti State, I commiserate with
his immediate family, friends, associates and other Nigerians whose
lives have been touched by this patriot."
